State of Exception

Leather Jacket: Nasty Gal  Boots: Nine West  Sunglasses: Ray Bans
Turtleneck: American Apparel

High-waist Vintage Reform Levis: Urban Outfitters

Bag: Rebecca Minkoff  Rings: (index bottom) Vintage (index top and ring finger) Forever21

Felt super edgy and cool in my vintage reform high waist Levis from Urban Outfitters that I paired with a mod looking black turtleneck from American Apparel. These particular denim jeans are a true standout with just the amount of attitude and sexiness, not to mention the perfect fit. I decided to break in my new Moto Zip Crop Jacket from Nasty Gal and lace up ankle boots from Nine West-adding my Craig Camera Crossbody bag from Rebecca Minkoff which I adore. What I love most about this look is how cool it is, a perfect combination of sexy and tough, reminding me of the music I love the most. It's amazing how style and music are very much amalgamated and i'm constantly influenced by the bands, genres and artists I gravitate towards. Speaking of artists, I spent some time at the amazing Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit. So vivid and striking, although I didn't fully understand all the pieces I couldn't help but take something away from each artist's work. I loved how certain works completely enveloped you- consuming the body with the art so you very much felt part of the piece. After a great time at the art gallery I ventured over to Avalon International Breads for a delicious cup of coffee and an oatmeal as well as a sea salt chocolate chip cookie. Go! Sy Thai for basil fried rice with chicken and fresh veggie spring rolls made for the perfect lunch for an already perfect day. It's a great feeling to discover little gems around town, and the more time I spend (which is very often as of recent) in Detroit the more I fall in love with the treasures that are held there.

Rust and Bone

Skirt and Romper: Urban Outfitters
Rings: Vintage  Necklace: Forever21
Leather Jacket: H&M
Bag: Urban Outfitters
Scarf: Forever21

After a crazy and ridiculously fun night with my friends, I decided to keep things chill the next day by spending time downtown and taking advantage of the slight warm up near the waterfront in Detroit. The sun was shining in its glorious splendor which was perfect for my full length velvet skirt from Urban Outfitters. I'm completely obsessed with the dark and rich colored pattern and the fit is marvelous- it perfectly frames the body and has such great movement. I decided to pair it with my black lace romper from Urban Outfitters as well- I have such a weakness for lace because it's so feminine and sexy. Adding a couple of vintage rings, my H&M leather jacket, a fringe bag and printed scarf from Forever21 gave me the perfect boho touch. After spending some time near the water, I went and ate at the amazing Grille at Midtown for a 4 cheese grilled cheese sandwich, roasted pepper tomato soup, homemade caesar salad, and calamari. Dessert was spent at my favorite spot Great Lakes Coffee for some delicious espresso and grapefruit cake. I live for little moments that feel so special, whether it's fun times with my friends or finding charming shops and restaurants- It feels all the more great when you do it in style.

She's Lost Control

Coat and Boots: Vintage

High-waist Cutoff Shorts: Vintage Levis
Graphic Tee: Urban Outfitters  Flannel: American Apparel

Rings: Forever21

Hat: Revolve Clothing
Decided to keep things casual though edgy with my favorite graphic Joy Division tee and vintage Levi cutoff high-waist shorts. Joy Division has to be one of my favorite bands, so raw and innovative, Ian Curtis's voice still gives me chills-their sound will never get old for me. The weather is still harsh here in Michigan so my 100% cashmere vintage coat was perfect to keep me warm. Adding my vintage boots, my Sir Robert flannel plaid shirt from American Apparel, and favorite wide brim velvet hat from Revolve Clothing were just the right touch. In whatever I wear comfort is key, so it's nice to have a stylish look that's also relaxed to go with a chill day. Think I'll spend the evening playing old records and dancing wildly though unapologetically to Joy Division's "Transmission." Nothing like losing yourself in music.

Black Swan

Skirt: Anthropologie  Leather Jacket: H&M  Turtleneck and Belt: American Apparel

Sunglasses: Ray Bans

Bag: Henri Bendel  Rings: (Middle) Vintage  (Ring and Index) Forever21

Boots: Urban Outfitters  Lip Color: Yves Saint Laurent's "Fuchsia in Rage" and "Never say Never" Lipliner by Nars
Channeling my inner Carrie Bradshaw with this gorgeous tulle skirt from Anthropologie. I can almost hear Mr. Big's famous "Hey Kid" to Carrie (I'm a huge Sex in the City fan). So feminine and delicate, you can't help but feel playful and girly. However, I decided to make the skirt more edgy by pairing it with a simple fitted black turtleneck from American Apparel, as well as my H&M leather jacket. It was only befitting to rock my pair of lace up boots from Urban Outfitters. To play along with the "All Things Pretty" portion of my look, I opted for my satin gold detailed shoulder bag from Henri Bendel, which I absolutely love, as well as a couple of vintage/modern rings. I absolutely love the juxtaposition between overt femininity like tulle and lace v. more masculine/ tough sort of clothing such as leather and hard denim, which all come together to make quite the pair. Moments like this I forget the harshness of winter, and want to strut around town with wild hair and a couple of girlfriends. After all, it's what Carrie would do.
